Homeschool at Easter

Easter is the time of new life. New life in Jesus. New life in nature. New life at church and at home with the family. As teachers we begin to look forward to a new school year even while the old one draws to a close. In homeschool at Easter, we look back at the old and we ask ourselves,"Have I done everything I should have for my child this year?"

We may find ourselves regreting that we have not accomplished all we planned, or, we may realize we have achieved everything that we had intended. In either case, it is in reflecting on the past that we can plan for the future. And in planning for the future we recognize that there is newness and hope.

The Bible tells us in Isaiah 40:31, "but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."
While we look back, we may long for our old schedules and routines which likely have been disrupted. Perhaps earlier plans for end of school gatherings with other home school families are now cancelled.

For older students, graduation ceremonies and parties are not being held or are being postponed. How can the hard work we have done with our students this year be celebrated and recognized? Is there a spirit of Easter that we can harness even through disappointment and uncertainty?

I believe there is. There is contentment and excitement in knowing we are preparing our children for the future whatever that might bring. This is the Easter peace that can be ours when we know the love of Jesus and the joy of being present with our children.
